Artificial Intelligence in Cars that Drive Themselves: How Far Are We from Self-Driven Vehicles?

 AI in Cars

Self-driven cars are a concept that has been cherished for decades coupled with the high conquering rate of artificial intelligence (AI) in today’s world. But how feasible is it turning this dream into a reality?

At the core of this technology is the artificial intelligence systems embedded in the cars that make it possible for them to see and make sense of the world around them using the camera and sensor data. In the advent of deep learning techniques, these cars can identify, avoid and warn of approaching objects even in complex traffic situations. Companies such as Tesla and Waymo are optimistic of the developments but hurdles still exist. There are issues such as legislations, the safety concerns from the consumers and the extensive testing that is required to cover multiple terrains. Conditions where full autonomy is achieved (Level 5) are more difficult to realize, this describes the scenario where the car operating system drives the car fully without the assistance of the driver.

*Conclusion:*

It is worth noting that a lot of progress has been made in the direction of designing self-driving cars but a fully automated society is far in the future. The advent of technology and appropriate policies that go with it the self driving cars are destined to invade the streets and lives of people very soon.
